The event is open to members of staff from the University of Essex and the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust

This meeting will help to bring together colleauges from the University of Essex and the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in a way that will mutually benefit clinical practice and research. It is rare for a frontline provider of mental health services and a University to have such strong links. It is hoped that, by combining our clinical and research expertise, we can make a real difference to the lives of people suffering with mental health problems as well as promoting resilience and positive mental health. The meeting will facilitate the formation of collaborative groups around contemporary mental health issues and priorities aligned with the following three themes:

  • Understanding people's experience of Mental Health
  • Building Resilience and Positive Mental Health
  • Making a Difference: Research Methods and Impact

Organised by

Dr Dominic Micklewright was appointed the Dean of Academic Partnerships at the University of Essex in 2013 and has strategic oversigh of the University's UK and international academic partnerships.   Dr Micklewright was appointed as a part-time teaching fellow in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Essex in 2003 and in 2004 was appointed as a lecturer and later a senior lecturer.  In 2007 he became a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society and was also made a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  Dr Micklewright is the founder and former head of the Sport, Performance and Fatigue Research Unit at the University of Essex and a former Chair of the Division of Sport & Performance at the British Association of Sport & Exercise Science. 

Dr Rob Senior was appointed Medical Director at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust) in 2006.  Dr Senior is an Honorary Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Trust and at the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust (MHA Section 12 approved), and is a systemic psychotherapist.  Dr Senior is a Senior Research Fellow at University College London.
